Moth Print Development

I‘ve spent a little time with the moths again… no joke ..
This time combining the two plates.

Hmm.. nice possibilities. These are just proofs on newsprint which prints up really well! Better sometimes than the expensive paper. That’s just how it is sometimes ..

Moth second plate

At last I have finished the cutting of the second plate.

The patterns are quite different from the first plate, as I want to overprint and see what happens.

I also cut a mask, using a test print from the first block. I can’t now remember why I I wanted to do this but I had written it down in my invaluable to-do book.
(Note to self: Good idea to add reason or give self some clue or other.)
Anyway I hope I will remember when I start printing.

I was looking at the new plate and the cut-out print from plate one and thought how much I liked the isolated pink moth.

Some more possibilities are suggesting themselves.. sadly not the reason for the mask yet.

Moth Print: 2

I am using the moth image for some more systematic experiments. I’m going to try 2 blocks with different sorts of marks and patterns on each.

First proofs and then printed onto the next block.Something I have not tried before. It involves making a registration plate and some careful measuring. Not my forte….

Coot and Dragon Progress

I am, as always struggling with registration with my lino prints, but I have managed one print with a additional colour in good register.

I am going to try two more and some basic added colour.

The dragon is making slow progress, I am trying some ideas for the surface decoration, there is a big mess!

I like to think it’s creative. It will be interesting to see how it turns out.

Coot 2 Progress

I am still playing with the coot and after a bit more cutting away I have another black proof.

I am hoping to make a few experiments with this and now have a blue green version and a couple of dark blue ones.

March: In like an adder’s head..out like a peacock’s tail

I wonder if this will be the case this year… this lovely old weather proverb can go both ways. Its been a day of sun and hail.
But I am enjoying my adders. I continued with a few more small trials while working on the larger piece. Small prints are useful for learning  about cutting and for colour trials but after the end of March things will have to get bigger and better!

Small adder prints.

Print Progress

While I am working on the large adder print I decided to make smaller one with an offcut of the vinyl. I wanted to try some colours and see what combining it with an old  leaf lino cut which was about the same size, would look like.
